Butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa).

This species of milkweed, with it's bright orange flowers, attracts and is beneficial to butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and other insects.

(Above) A Roadrunner with lunch, a juvenile skink, in the Ouachita Mts, OK.  One of several western species of animals and plants that can be found much further east throughout the Ouachita Mts.

Arkansas Chocolate Tarantula (Aphonopelma hentzi).
Yes, tarantulas are found in Arkansas!  But, they are generally uncommon.  Tarantulas are another southwestern species that range into Arkansas and prefer xeric habitats.
